Imagine a fashion event that didn’t exclude models for being too short, designers for being incapable of manufacturing, or photographers for being under experienced. That event exists, and its coming to Portland this March!
Chance Fashion is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources & opportunities for fashion artists of all levels, or as the slogan goes, “Making the world a more beautiful and inclusive place.” Established by Active Entertainment in Seattle in 2009, the event has consecutively executed monthly fashion shows that include both emerging and established participants while facilitating hands-on interactivity among featured talent. Chance provides a great opportunity to connect with local fashion artists & grow the local fashion community one month at a time. In addition, every event practices an inclusive participation policy to ensure a welcoming & encouraging community environment while building confidence in emerging fashion artists with hands-on experience.
Each event features a different theme for participating Designers, including more traditional interests such as evening gowns, swimsuits, & ready to wear, as well more under served demographics such as the full figure, menswear, & alternative designers. Over the years, Chance has featured Designers from all over the country, including California, Texas, Florida, and Oregon, on top of hosting several events in San Francisco and Portland.
This March, Chance Fashion will be hosting the first of a 3-event series in Portland throughout 2017. A team of Portland based event organizers, fashionistas and influencers have come together with some of the talents who’ve visited Seattle to experience Chance to begin the effort to establish a branch of the non-profit as a monthly production in Portland. With the support of the PDX Fashion scene, Chance aims to build bridges between the PDX and Seattle Fashion Communities to grow the Northwest Fashion presence nationally.
About the event
On September 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., The Regional Arts & Culture Council, along with some of the region’s most innovative design thinkers will host our second annual celebration of equitable education, creativity in the classroom, and sustainable fashion benefiting The Right Brain Initiative. For our second annual runway show we invite both rookies and established designers/design teams alike to debut runway garments made from recycled materials and found objects. Whether glued or stapled, sewn or woven, each piece will display inventive form, unique style and a creative juxtaposition—shifting the materials from their original form into wearable couture. Come for the fashion, stay for the reception-style fusion fare, tasty adult libations, whimsical post-show dessert and surprise guest performances as we celebrate The Right Brain Initiative’s 10 fantastic years of bringing arts integration into K-8 schools!
